Can anyone tell me which is the best OSX installer maker out there. Do any of them allow you to program in product registration? I'm looking into producing some downloadable plug-ins and I will need some sort of product registration. Many thanks.

The only installer maker worth using is PackageMaker, which comes with the Apple developer tools.

Use Installer VISE or Stuffit InstallerMaker, and you will make your users angry. Apple's package format is much better because it is a completely open format, so it allows things like my app, Pacifist, to read them and customize them. Other installers like Installer VISE are proprietary, so if they have a problem (which occurs often since they are buggy), users cannot work around them at all, causing much frustration.

Ticking sound coming from a .pkg package? Don't let the .bom go off! Inspect it first with Pacifist. Macworld - five mice!

Okay, so the software choice seems clear. Will it allow me to to incorporate product registration code? I'm just thinking of a 'enter your serial number' type box.

Maybe have a look at Filestorm.

What would be the problem with integrating registration into the software itself, not the installer?
