Every year I look back at the software available on OS X and am amazed by what we've got. I also write it down here so you guys can agree or disagree with what I think is the best software available anywhere (Mac, Windows, Linux):

Here goes:

Internet Stuff:

Safari 1.1 (1.2 soon) - excellent light-weight browser
OmniWeb 5.0 - soon to be released, soon to probably be the best heavy-weight browser
Transmit 2.6 - best FTP client
Unison 1.0 - best Usenet client
iRC 1.0b10- best IRC client IMO

Productivity Stuff:
OmniGraffle 3.0 - excellent diagramming/charting app
OmniOutliner 2.2 - excellent outlining/note-taking app

Apple Stuff:
GarageBand - amazing app
iTunes 4 - still one of a kind
iChat AV - simplest chat app
Of course, FCP and all the other pro apps are simply remarkable

Emulators:
All of Richard Bannister's emulators with the Emulator Enhancer add-on are amazing

Miscellaneous:
Snapz Pro X 2.0 - will be ridiculously awesome when released

I'm sure I'll think of a lot more tomorrow. Pile on the good OS X software praises in this thread.

edit: sorry if this is considered as part of that sticky thread (though it shouldn't really.

I look down my dock and love what I see..

iTerm - Great tabbed terminal app

Virtual PC - Freedom to run windows and NOT worry about viriiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii

Quicken 2004 - Crap... but crap I can't live without

Word/Excel - Great office software (no matter what your religious opinion about MS is)

iTunes 4 - The best music shopping/organizing software out there.

iPhoto 4 - 4,000 photos and growing. Love it.

iCal/Addressbook/iChat/iSync - All great iStillFree

Mail - Great junk mail filter, lots of options, threads rock

OmniWeb 4.5 - Waiting for 5.0

Safari - tab-o-licious

Firebird - Open Source = Good

IE - STUPID SITES I CAN'T LOG INTO WITH OTHERS

Watson - Use it every day for TV/Movies/Weather/Football/Price Grabbing/APOD

Transmit - Great FTP/SFTP now downloading a 3 GB backup

BBEdit - The Handyman of Text

Graphic Converter - The Handyman of Graphics

Photoshop/Imageready - When you need the power.

OmniGraffle - The most impressive software from OG. (period).

Throw in some that I use but don't keep in my dock like WeatherPop, NetMonitor.

Yes... it is great to be a Mac user...

NeoOffice/J - OpenOffice.org (almost) for the masses! If you don't like X11, then definitely try this one out.

TeXShop - This has been around for a while, but it was new to me. I'm now addicted to TeX.

Desktop Manager - A wonderful free multiple desktop solution for OS X. It's still in the alpha stage, but it shows incredible promise.

Here's another vote for NeoOffice/J. It's truly shaping up to be a serious competitor to M$ Office.

Hey, don't forget about OS X Games!

Games:
• iConquer
• JewelToy
• Stratιges
• Simon Extreme
• ToySight
• Enigmo
• Quake III (outperform PC counterpart in many areas. Extremely well-written)

Applications:
• FileStorm
• CSSEdit (so damn good)
• Acquisition (I really like way it's designed but too bad the author had lowered my perspective on the app)
• xPad
• SubEthaEdit
• iChatStatus
• iChat Streaming Icon
• Adium 2.0
• Little Snitch
• ecto (with a bit more polishing, it'll become a decent app)

Neat little apps:
• Inquistor
• MenuMeters (beautifully designed)
• Another Launcher
• Cocktail
• Meteorologist (heard about 4 new programmers taking over the projects which is a good thing)

I agree with all apps that Horsemud!!! have listed except maybe Snapz Pro X.. It will be awesome no question but the problem is that the GUI still feel a bit like Classic OS

these are some of my favourite program, and the best thing about 'm is that they are Mac Only :

Freeway Pro :: webdesign the Mac way.
Launchbar :: I'd be lost without it.
Digital Performer 4 :: stunning audio
FontAgent Pro 2 :: simply wonderful

Learning I cannot live without Transmit now that I've got my own server running on a static IP address.

Mozilla Firebird is rapidly becoming my favorite browser. May change when OmniWeb 5 comes out.

iSync and .Mac is a very cool, handy combination. Syncing calendars, address book, Safari bookmarks, and iDisks across my three Macs (home, office, laptop) is very, very handy. And I've not seen anything like it for Windows or Linux yet.

Watson has replaced Sherlock in my dock.
