Today before the Superbowl I went to my local 7 Eleven to buy a Pepsi or a 32OZ drink and the billboard was posted and I asked the store keeper about the promo. He said that he knows nothing about the promo and has not stocked any more pepsi's or 32OZ cups for several days. He wasn't sure how the promo works. I mentioned that you buy a pepsi or a 32OZ Big Gulp and get a chance at winning a free song download. He said he never paid attention to the billboard in his store. I recommend people asking the store keeper about the promo before just buying a pepsi and end up with no chance of getting a free song download. Many people may are going to cheated buying Pepsi's that have been on the stores shelves for days before the promo. There's no way to tell. Apple and Pepsi are starting out on the wrong foot.

The pepsi bottles with a free download chance are very clearly marked on the outside.

Thanks for the info. Wasn't aware of that. The store I went to didn't even have any. Apple clearly states on iTunes to go to 7 Eleven and buy the drinks there. Not worth driving around town to find the 7 Eleven with updated stock.

I'm not exactly sure where you see it saying "go to 7-11" This is from apple's page on how to play.
look for specially marked 20-oz. and 1-liter bottles of Pepsi, Diet Pepsi and Sierra Mist. 1 in 3 caps will have a code good for a free song on iTunes. And you get to choose your song from over 500,000 tracks
I've purchased 6 pepsi's over the last 4 days, and all of them have been winners...i'd say the odds are better than 1 in 3 (at least here).

Yes, it says that on the "How to Play" page, but if you look at the "Official Rules" page (see the fine print at the bottom of the "How to Play" page) you will see the following:
2. WHERE TO FIND GAME PIECES: Look for game piece printed underneath bottle caps on specially-marked “iTunes” 20 oz. and 1 liter bottles of Pepsi, Diet Pepsi and Sierra Mist and under the rim of specially-marked 32 oz. fountain cups available at participating 7 Eleven convenience stores during the Promotion Period. Not all brands and package sizes may participate in all areas. No Purchase Necessary. To receive one free game piece and a copy of Official Rules, while supplies last, send a self-addressed, stamped envelope postmarked on or before 3/31/04 to: Pepsi iTunes Game Piece, P.O. Box 9205, Young America, MN 55558-9205. Residents of the state of VT may omit return postage. Limit one free game piece per request per stamped outer envelope. Pepsi-Cola Company (“Sponsor”) assumes no liability for lost, late, stolen, illegible, misdirected, mutilated, incomplete or postage-due mail or requests.
Boldface added by me.

I read the other day that Pepsi expects 10-20% of all winning caps to be redeemed.
