I am on my first Keynote presentation. Everytime I add a new slide I have to re-apply the theme to it and change the font style and size. Is there a way that I can have it set up to start each slide with the same font and theme? Thanks.

Also, is there an easy way to import photos into Keynote? I want to view thumbnails of my images before I select it...is this possible? Perhaps a link to an iphoto library?

Open iPhoto, Open Keynote... Drag the image you like to Keynote

So easy...

When I do something unique (special font and location)... I open a new slide, Select All (? + A) and hit the delete key., then go to the slide where everything already is formatted and copy everything (? + A) then go back to the new slide and paste it in (? + P)... The location/font/size etc. will be placed in the exact same location.

Bill - you don't by change happen to be editing a presentation that was created within one theme and then changed to another, do you? If this is the case, be sure to uncheck the "retain changes to theme defaults" checkbox when selecting your theme... otherwise the style of any edits you made in the previous theme will carry over.

If that's not the case i'm not even sure what's going on... it's certainly not something i've run into outside of a theme change.

I unchecked it, but my font keep going back to the defalt for that theme, not sure what is wrong, but this is not as straight forward as PP. Is there any way to crop images in Keynote or do I have to do it entirely in iphoto before importing them into a slide? Thanks.

Perhaps Keynote isn't for you... I use it, but I'm a designer and can't stand PowerPoint... I use Photoshop and Illustrator to create amazing presentations...

But withough knowing how to use them, I'm not sure how amazing they could be.

I think Apple should come out with 30 or so additional templates... for "the rest of us", but to be honest, I'm very happy with it. I would like a few new things in 2.0, but for now, I'm cool. There is nothing like dumping a high quality video in to the presentation under a graphic of an old TV or something...

You simply can't do that in PowerPoint.

I also like being able to burn a few copies of the presentation on to a CD in Quicktime format to hand out. I know that the people can't do a simple cut and past of my information and call it their own. Great for when you are showing something off.

Ah - didn't realize you were using something other than the theme's default font. The font settings are defined in the master slides across the board. The only way to make it a long-term change is to make changes to the font settings directly in the Master slides (View > Master Slides).

As you might expect, I'd recommend saving a copy of the theme in question just in case you want to revert. Once you'd made the change on all the masters (as well as the stand-alone text element, which you'd define as a set style for all masters, and the text within the tables if you want to use those as well (will skip over the charts, as they can be quite a pain)) you can save your own version of the theme (save theme option in File menu) so that you've got the option of using that modified version each time in the future.
