System Prefs quits when you close the window.

Is there any way to make System Preferences NOT quit when its window is closed? It didn't do this before 10.3. Now that they finally added a control panel list to the dock icon, it seems pretty stupid to me to make it quit when you close its window. Ugh.

one easy workaround is instead of closing the window, "hide" it (apple + H)...then it's gone but you can still open a pane quickly through the dock menu.

Yeah, I know. It's just that my instinct on Mac OS programs is to close the window rather than hide it. Sigh, oh well. Thanks anyway though

It bugs me too. But I really am not in the System Preferences very often. They probably implemented it the right way for the novice user.

I wish there were some way for it to be a system-wide preference. For novice users, it is better to close applications when the final window is closed. But I find that anyone who has used Macs for a long time detests that behavior.

System Prefs is not the only "app" that does this now....quite a few like Disk Utility and Network Utility also quit when the window is closed.
