Hello I have Word X for Mac service release 1
10.2.8

I am sending a word document to a PC via email as an attachment.

The person on the PC end can't open the document (They have word 97), I assume they are trying to double click on the document.
I try to explane to them to open word, and choose open from the file menu then choose the document.

It is so frustrating that the document will just not open.
or should I save the document as something else.( I save it as a microsoft word document)

I think the problem is that he has an old version of Word that doesn't read your newer Word's file format. I don't have it on my computer right in front of me, but try looking in the "Save as" type list for an older version of Word documents -- Word 97 or below should be fine.

Save your files with names ending in .doc so that the Windows computer will recognise the file as a Word document.

that was gonna be my suggestion as well. newer versions of docs will not in open on older versions of word. its a way that MS ensures people upgrade. each new release of Office they change the doc format just enough to make them not work with each other.

Yep, that should work. Office 2000 introduced new file formats that are not compatible with the Office 97 formats for Word and (I think) Excel. Fortunately, they included the ability to save files in the older format as well. And when they built Office X, they included this option for Mac users to increase (yeh, right!) compatibility.
