well it just came today. ive been messing around with it this afternoon and tonight. its pretty sweet. it definitely adds to the fun of garageband. i can actually make some music now...unlike with that onscreen keyboard. it has several nice features such as the pitch bend and modulation. the pitch bend is extra sweet on the guitar sounds since you can sort of simulate the stretching of strings. the effect sounds pretty darn good. the sounds do very quite a bit depending on how hard you press a key. as the guy said it really does do an adequate job of simulating the "attack" of certain instruments.
it is very well constructed and appears to be pretty durable. its much nicer looking that its pictures on apple's site. i was a bit disappointed that it does not come with a sustain pedal. it comes with a software cd which has a VST thing or two and some demo sounds (that wont run under OS X...at least i couldnt get them to).
garageband works very well with it. it reponds well with no delays and can switch up the instruments almost instantly.
anything else you guys wanna know?

my review of the M-audio 49e:
