Nasrudin sat on a river bank when someone shouted to him from the opposite side: "Hey! how do I get across?" "You are across!" Nasrudin shouted back.

awesome. thanks
macos (or programs for it) really should come with an uninstall program. thats one of the few (and i mean very few) things i like about windows. some mac programs do...but they are few and far between.

Most of the (good) system related software do have an uninstaller. Even norton does.
Virex is a good anti virus, but the guys who made the port had a hard time with the mac version. That's why it's so hard to get rid of it.

i mean honestly though...i dont see why apple just cant write a simple logging tool that records what apps are installed. it keeps the receipts of its updates. why not keep a receipt and log of other apps? at the very least the ones that are pkg files that use the built in mac software installer.

/Library/Receipts or something holds these info, but only for apps installed using packages
And there is an app called "Uninstaller" that does that job. I think you should find the app on version tracker if it's still maintained.
Basically the app reads the files installed (the receipt is a "log") and erases those files... pretty simple and cool

Does Virex still create that "sw" folder in your root hard drive directory?

yah i knew about the receipts thing...thats why i mentioned it. i never noticed it kept other pkg receipts in there too. ill have to give that uninstaller program a try if i ever need to uninstall something.
still needs work though. it seems like such a simple thing...but it really is important.
