I would like to make a smart playlist by filtering songs by two separate genres--Rock and Alternative. Is there a way in which you can somehow add an AND logical modifier in the smart playlist creation criteria? Alternatively I imagine setting a criteria for all songs that aren't rock or alternative, but there are a lot of genres to go through if done this way.

As it is now, iTunes will make a smart playlist with all Rock tunes, but if you add Alternative to the list of criteria, then it thinks that the Genre must be Rock and Alternative for each song checked. Thus, no songs are added. Anyone know how to get around this?

Thanks,

Let me also add that one way might be to select match any criteria specifying both Rock and Alternative--but at the same time I would like to filter out a few artists that match these genre criteria. In this case, if I match any of the criteria then iTunes is not going to filter out the selected artists.

Unfortunately, iTunes doesn't allow for this sort of smart filtering. I've even heard Apple employees comment on how frustrating the implementation of smart playlists is.

Thanks. I just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing something...guess I'll go ahead and filter out all of the genres except for Alternative and Rock.

I'm sure if it helps, but have you tried to select "Match ANY of the following conditions" when you create the Smart Playlist? (instead of "Match ALL of the following conditions")

In that case, he can't do any additional filtering (i.e. weeding out specific rock or alternative artists).

I have found the new Grouping category helpful to do these sorts of things...
