In the Finder select the menu Go To->Applications. Drag iTunes back into the Dock, or launch it directly from the Applications folder.

The question mark you saw in the Dock indicated that the system couldn't find iTunes. That's also why iTunes can't be found in "/Applications".

You'll have to download iTunes from http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/

Make sure you're using at least 10.1.5, and authenticate with the installer for iTunes.

If this still doesn't work, check Software Update. iTunes might be listed there as it's not in "/Applications".

Did you provide an admin's password to the installer? If you're on an older OS you might have to click the little button with the lock to do that.

If that doesn't help you need to provide more details.

Those, and also provide all other information you can.

Which version of iTunes have you been using?
What did you do before iTunes vanished?
If you search for iTunes in the Finder, can you find it somewhere?
Where did you download the new iTunes installer? URL?
Which volume did you select to install iTunes to?
Is it the boot volume?
How much free space does it have?
What's the exact error message the installer gives you?
Can you post a screenshot of the Installer at the point where you stuck?

etc. pp.
