Has anybody applied a Linksys firmware update from OS X before? I just got one and I need to update it, but the download came with a tftp.exe for Windows and the built in tftp client doesn't support authentication. Is there some other way? Maybe an open source TFTP client which supports authentication?

I tried updating my linksys firmware using the web interface from OS X, and it failed miserably. In fact, I thought that I'd killed the router, as the update halted about halfway through.
In the end, I simply hooked up our Win XP Dell Laptop and used their tftp app, and it brought the router back to life. I'd use a windows computer if I were you.

Each firmware update I have applied through the web interface has gone without a hitch.
If you, by any chance, have a Linksys WRT54G you should check out the firmware by Sveasoft. See here for more info. It enables a lot of extra functionality previously only available in higher-end routers.

I don't have a Windows PC but I have updated my linksys hub firmware in the past. I think I did it using the 'Update Firmware' feature on the hubs setup page, when you downloaded the firmware did you get any other files with the .exe. I cant be sure though (It may have been some app), I will have a look when I get home.

I eventually got the web based updater to work, once I found it. I tried three times on a Jaguar computer, then finally a Panther system succeeded. I don't know if the difference was the Safari version or maybe the hardware difference.
