Searching for a simple mail utility to help with the following.

I like to keep my dock hidden but have the disadvantage of having mouse over just see if I have any mail sitting in my inbox. So I'm looking for a small utility that indicates the number of messages on right hand side of the Finder toolbar -right around where the date is. I believe I've seen something like that before but the problem is that they had too many bells and whistles and annoying splash screens. Is there anything out there that you would recommend?

Thanks!

there was a program called "here lies mail" or something like that, that i installed a while ago. it placed a number in the menubar white the amount of unread mail.

like you, i always miss email, since my dock is hidden. but personally, i do not like a busy menubar.

so i went in search of another way to not miss email.
one way i found was to make a simple rule in mail.
i called it "bounce mail icon"
if any of the following conditions are met:
Every Message
Perform the following actions:
Bounce Icon in Dock

that works amazingly. for every single email you get the mail icon will bounce. it will bounce until you click on it.
