I finally bit the bullet and upgraded from 9.2 to Panther about 10 days ago. This also entailed going from IE 5.1 to 5.2.

I've sorted through most of the little hiccups and speed bumps, but one thing has me baffled. About 3 times now, I've opened up Explorer to find that all my auto-fill and auto complete settings have vanished. It doesn't seem to be the complete prefs, since cookies and file helper settings are still there, but I wind up having to re-input just the auto-fill material.

Has anybody else encountered this or have any idea what might be causing it? I'm hoping it's something obvious that I'm not seeing due to my neophite status with regard to all those libraries and such. I'm not sure I'm even looking in the right places, since I can't seem to find an actual explorer preferences file.

Help!

You first need to quit all Microsoft applications, then change preferences in Internet Explorer, then quit Internet Explorer and then maybe they will stick.

Next, you will have to consider

http://www.apple.com/safari/
http://www.mozilla.org/products/firefox/
http://www.mozilla.org/projects/camino/
http://www.omnigroup.com/applications/omniweb/
Nasrudin sat on a river bank when someone shouted to him from the opposite side: "Hey! how do I get across?" "You are across!" Nasrudin shouted back.

IE is dead - time for a new browser.

No one uses it anymore, and Microsoft no longer develop it for OS X. It is also probably the worst browser for the Mac platform now.

You might like to check out Safari or Mozilla (Also Camino, FireFox, based on Mozilla).

There are some others to choose from, but they are the main two at the moment.

OmniWeb 5 also looks very promising, however it is still in beta.

Yeah. I'm going to check into Safari when I have a little time. I've been locked into IE for the past couple of years because I was helping to develop some online training courses that were contracted to be compatable only with IE (for all the obvious Windows reasons).

Meanwhile, Developer's hint has at least turned this into a repeatable bug. Opening and quitting IE while parts of Office are open doesn't do anything to preferences. However, if you quit Explorer and then quit all other Microsoft apps, Poof! the prefs are gone.

Now to try the rest of his fix
