The record industry is trying to screw the consumer again. they realize that they can make more money by telling Apple this CD is sold only by song but a user can buy the playlist which is the same as the CD.
Also I have found some CDs that are cheaper to buy the CD by song but they make the best track or the longest track "album only" so you have to spend 9.99 for a 8 song CD.
I don't think it is Apple doing this but the record companies giving Apple different terms for the new music they release online.
It was cheaper for me to buy Feels Like Home brand new from half.com than it was to download the CD and that is with shipping. true there was no instant gratification but still I saved a buck because the company releasing her CD wanted to make a extra buck.
Again with Norah Jones, I was able to get the 7 song cd New York City for only 6.93 or something. so I think it is with most CDs costing 9.99 not starting at 9.99.
Edit: Should I call them CD
