Hello all,
I have brief experience with iphoto (probably version 2) and I am underwhelmed. I wonder if iphoto 4 will be better:
(I apologize in case some of my questions are due to my misunderstanding of iphoto)

(1) I am aware the speed issue has been somewhat resolved.

(2) Is there a "rename" function? I mean, from digital carema, usually the picture file is named IMG_xxx. When I use iphoto to import, it won't ask me to rename the actual files themselves, only offer naming to the whole album (am I right?). I end up not using iphoto but to use card reader to drag my folder onto the HD, and use some freeware to rename each and every one of the pictures (with sequential numbering)

WinXP provides this function right off the bat when importing photos, it ask what name (and series) I want. And it renames all the pictures during importing.

(3) Does it still create a smaller file just for thumbnail display? I find it might be annoying if I need moving files around. I end up double the number of files (with one original plus one smaller version). Can I turn this "feature" off?

There are lots to like about iphoto. If my above questions can be solved I will be happy moving back to iphoto.

Thank you very much for your help.

no idea for iphoto2, but in iphoto4, select a whole bunch of photos and shift+command+B for batch. then you can rename them (and other things)

I would certainly try it out.

I am glad you mention the speed increase, surely it is a big plus.

I hope somebody would find out how iPhoto won't duplicate the photos for thumbnail purpose. At one time I have about 300 pictures from a trip. By the time I try to move them around it grows to 600, with another 300 very small pics!!

Thanks again.
