Hi,

I'm looking for a utility that will help me see where the majority of my space is being taken up. At the moment I have to go through each folder at a time and do 'get info' to see which are the largest.

Is there a handy little utility that can help with this and make it a little less time consuming.

Cheers,

J.

you could use the find command to search for files over a certain size.

You can also try out OmniDiskSweeper to find your larger files that you rarely use and could probably get rid of to save more space....

Terminal is your friend. Open it up, and type:

du -ks ~/*

...and it'll output the total in K of each file/folder in your home directory. More information on du can be found by typing:

man du

...into Terminal.

You want WhatSize:

It'll recurse every directory and give you a size.

Thanks all, I'd completely forgotten about the du command. Very handy.

Whatsize is definitely the winner for doing large searches though, seems to do what omnidisksweeper does but is free.

We like free.
