I've had this problem through several iterations and updates and am mostly using AIM as a result. I am using 10.2.8. iChat continually reports my buddies as not online for both those using ichat and using AIM. AIM however sees them just fine. For that matter, my ibook that I use away from my desk with Panther and ichat works fine too via my airport network and also worked using 10.2.8.

I don't have any idea where to start with this. It just seems odd. Any ideas? I've toyed with the idea that various identities are conflicting with each other but have no idea how to test this. I'm still using my old AOL login names for accounts discontinued years ago on AIM. ichat is using my .mac ID. In privacy preferences I have chosen "allow anyone" hoping that would up the chances of the process working.

PS I've been holding off on Panther for this machine because No One Lives Forever 2 doesn't work with Panther)

PPS irritatingly, ichat help says "see the ichat FAQs" for troubleshooting but I can't find them.

That's my hang up from troubleshooting.

Otherwise... is it possible you are looking at the Rendezvous list? I don't mean to demean you, just curious.

I have had the same problems the original poster stated. I also have my "ancient" AIM name and .mac for ichat (they are the same) I am not looking at rendevous. The only thing I have come up with is that the people I am not seeing on ichat (but do on AIM) are using an older version of AIM. If they upgrade I see them on ichat. If they don't I only see them on AIM. SO now I have both on my screen and don't like that but want to talk to my nephew who has an older version. Oh well! Does that help?
