I discovered that a utility for my Alphasmart keyboard doesn't work unless I uninstall APE, Application Enhancer. Is it possible to have APE in my main account and create another account in which APE is not active?

Or does APE hog the system always?

Thanks in advance.

You should be able to do that. You could also try adding the utility to the exclusion preferences in APE itself and see if that works, which is what I do for apps that have problems with APE.

A MUCH BETTER SOLUTION THAN GETTING RID OF APE ENTIRELY, as some people here would have you do. (I swore I would never use this smiley, since it drives me nuts, but...)

That would fix the problem for sure, but if you need APE for whatever reason in one user, you should be able to move all the APE stuff in the /Library folder into respective folders of that users ~/Library . It should work as well and be limited to that user only (that's a general principle that can be applied to all stuff in /Library like QuickTime codecs, contextual menus, fonts, screensavers etc. pp.)
Nasrudin sat on a river bank when someone shouted to him from the opposite side: "Hey! how do I get across?" "You are across!" Nasrudin shouted back.
