MUCH better than the old design.

Now it just needs a decent icon.

It comes with none.

That looks like a good option for the official client. Seriously, they should just say this is the official client.

So, who wants to make an icon?

Maybe? Honestly I don't know. I probably found it back in Nov. or so. I got fed up with the default client. This one is quite a bit better. You can control ul/dl speeds. Although there have been some torrents that would only work with the default client. For some reason this newer one couldn't connect with a select few.

Hmm the old bit torrent app I had let you control u/l speeds.

The official bit torrent client can control speeds as well.

And what is with the horrible UI in the buttons on the main window? It does seem to work alright, but it needs an icon and a reworking of that main window...

All glory to the hypnotoad.

Personally, I have been using Azureus (http://sourceforge.net/project/showf...group_id=84122) and rather happy with it. Never liked the original BT app, really.

The problem is that Apple has, in its "infinite wisdom" included no GUI frameworks for Python in OSX (currently, there are three: the de-facto standard Tkinter, the somewhat-nicer WxPython, and PyObjC, which provides Cocoa access). This means that they have to be included with the app, which (in addition to making packaging the thing more confusing) bloats the download size.

This particular app uses WxPython. I do wish Apple would at least include Tk (or Tkinter where appropriate) with OSX, given that Tk is standard in any Tcl, Python, Perl, and Ruby distribution out there, and all four of these languages are now included as part of OSX. However, even that wouldn't help this particular app.

this BT client *resumes* a download!

That alone makes it a level better than the official client.

the official one can. you tell it to download to the same folder and it will tell you the file already exists and if you want to replace it. click replace and it will do the count thing, and then resume.

but yes, this one is so much better.

try this: download more than one thing with this or the official bt client. take the download windows and put them perfectly over each other. and then make bt active and f10 expose. they unhide themselves. kinda like tabs

The official resumes it... it just stupidly says it's going to replace it.

I like Azureus too, but it can limit the UL speed only at 5%... The official BT Client can limit UL Speed at 1%!

This client Zimph is recommending limits UL speed to 0%, I keep it at 0.0k/s and it speeds up my DL time hardcore.

Does this app have a way to globally limit upload speed, or is it only per-torrent?

FWIW it's only per-torrent, which is a pain. Not that I download that much.

"Zimph" = Zimphire, the forum member who started this thread. The client recommended is at http://www.sarwat.net/bittorrent/ .

No, there is a global setting.

You just have to check the "Save this globally" or something of the like radio button.

As soon as you open a torrent, you'll see it.
