On trying to get to a shared music file on the local netrwork I get the following message but where do i check the port etc...

"The shared music library "steven Dakin's music is not accessible. This may be caused by firewall software.

check the firewall software running on the shared computer or this computer has been set to allow communication on port 3689."


There is a few 1000 tunes available and people can listen to mine but I can't get to their's.

can anyone help?

Go to System Preferences : Sharing

There, select the 'Firewall' tab.

You might want to do a quick test, turning the firewall off on either or both computers for a moment. If music sharing works, with the firewall(s) turned off, great.

Turn it(them) back on, see if the list contains an item called 'iTunes Music Sharing (3689)' and check the checkbox to open that port. If there is no such item, you can create it by hitting the 'New...' button.
