very nice.

2 minor questions:

any way to change the background color? (I'd prefer a neutral grey/blue to the teal that I'm currently seeing)

any chance of a non-metal toolbar preference? (for those of us who use non-metal browsers)

I like the green background color. You can change it with the PDF Browser Plugin Settings program.

I don't think I will do another button set, but you can change it the usual way yourself.

Love all the new features, but this one seems much slower than the previous versions. Just me or do others also notice a slow-down.

The only thing that is SO unprofessional about this plug-in is the background color. Please stick with standard Mac OS X color or at least offer an option right in the plug-in, not special setting program blah blah.

Oh, how could you have forgotten about adding mouse scroll support? Everyone was asking for it since 1.0.

Other than that, PDF Browser Plugin 2.0 is one decent PDF reader. In some cases, it's easily better than what Preview.app have to offer. Thanks for continuing developing the plug-ins.

I don't think he forgot, since he mentioned why it's not in there in his FAQ.

Can you support the mouse wheel?

The plugin supports the mouse wheel in all Carbon web browsers, but this is currently not possible for Cocoa browsers.

Fantastic! I haven't tried it yet but if it's better than the current one then I reckon it will be great!

The new "individual pages" layout style is somewhat slower due to drawing the page shadows. The old "continuous display" layout style is as fast as it used to be.

Wow, this looks very nice. I am thrilled that you can finally zoom to sizes smaller than the browser window size, and in general am very grateful that this program exists. However, I have three problem areas. If there are known fixes or workarounds, I'd love to know about them:

Bug: I have my system set (via Tinkertool) to show double scroll arrows at top and bottom of scrollbar. PDF Browser Plugin 2.0 seems to ignore both the down arrow on top and the up arrow on bottom (in other words, only the two "outer" arrows work.)

Annoyance: Scrolling on my system is absolutely glacially slow in *either* display mode on my TiBook 550. I attribute this 100% to the use of smooth scrolling. I have smooth scrolling turned off in my system preferences and would much prefer that this plugin obey that setting. This affects both incremental scrolling (scroll arrows, which in this version are completely unusably slow to me) and paging (clicking in the scroll bar). Please implement a non-smooth scroll for those who don't want it! [aside: I had found that the previous version of the plugin, at least on the newest Safari under Panther, didn't smooth scroll, and as a result was infinitely more responsive. In this respect, the new version is a step backwards.]

Wish: Please consider adding a separate button to zoom to fit, so that a complete page fits in the window (and stays locked in this mode when the browser window is resized). This is how I prefer to do a lot of my PDF browsing, and no one seems to support it except Adobe. In this mode, going a full page up or down should always put a perfectly aligned page on the screen (which Adobe has botched in recent versions; paging up or down tends to cause the display to move slightly more or less than a page, which means you constantly have to adjust the scrollbar to keep the page aligned on screen.)

Thanks for listening!

Oops. Of course this was supposed to respect the system preference for smooth scrolling. I forgot to put this in. Thanks for reporting.

I don't think I will do this. Sounds confusing to use and difficult to implement. I don't fully understand it at least.
I think you are asking for a different layout style (not a zoom command) but I foresee problems with this. Maybe that's why Adobe "botched" it.
The "continuous display" layout style already dynamically fits pages with the window width and is easier to use than what you propose.

Panther only eh?

There are still a lot of Jaguar users out there but since you're giving it away for free I won't complain about it :-)

Thanks for your work, the older version is still very useful.

Great, that'll be a huge improvement.

My apologies for not describing it better. The screen grab below illustrates the feature of Acrobat Reader that I'm looking for. It's very very simple: selecting the indicated button means that the zoom level is locked to fit a single page into the window, and will track it if the window is resized. Note that this is *not* the same as your "continuous display", since this feature fits to both the width *and* height of the window. Adobe "botched it" fairly recently (maybe version 5); prior to that it always worked perfectly IIRC. I would, however, gladly take Adobe's current not-quite-right implementation over none at all.

Right now, to fit a full page into the window, you have to click zoom in or zoom out until it fits, but even then it's usually impossible to get a zoom that's exactly right.

You're obviously free to decide to implement it or not, but I wanted to make sure you at least understood what I was saying first.

Feature request:

Insofar as smooth scrolling is concerned- I have smooth scrolling enabled, and in Safari, text/graphics scrolling is fast and smooth. In PDF Plugin 2.0, scrolling is MUCH slower (in either view mode) than version 1.x (and I'm running a dual 2.0GHz G5). I'd like to be able to keep smooth scrolling ON in the system preferences, but have a PDF plugin 2.0 preference to turn it off for PDF viewing (i.e., ignore the system setting and PDF view with smooth scrolling off).

I'm thinking about going back to verion 1 because scrolling is so slow.

Don't get me wrong, though... I still love your plugin!! Apple should buy it from you, pay you a ton of money, and build it into Safari.

Users of Internet Explorer please note:

Internet Explorer 5 is not compatible with this version of the PDF Browser Plugin. You need to install version 0.4 which is available for download here
Luckily, I am not using IE.

Good Job!
