hello all.

is it possible to make itunes simply play a file, but not add it to my library? i don't mean copying it to my library - i already have that disabled.

it's just a pain in the butt when i download stuff i just want to listen to then get rid of to have to delete the file, then delete it from the itunes library.

thanks.

A workaround would be to 'get info' on the file and use the 'preview' feature to play the tune. Or, use the finder column view to do the same thing...

Don't double-click it unless you're sure you want to go ahead and put it in your library.

No I don't think there is a way to get iTunes to do what you want. I usually play the song in QuickTime Player if I don't want it added to my library.

Or open them with QuickTime Player.
