Gahhh!! Help!!

Guy has like a 30 page Word document in Office v. X (10.1.5) on a dual G5/2ghz. After working in it for a few minutes it suddenly gets a spinning beach ball and he has to force quit it. I tried trashing office, reinstall and apply all updaters. Copy and paste word document into a new document. This helped for a few minutes but then it went back to the spinning beach ball. WTF! What I have tried:

Reinstall Office v. X (and all updaters)
Verify/Repair Permissions
Throw computer from window (almost)

Help!

Delete the "Microsoft" folder out of the /Users/User_Name/Library/Preferences folder and see if that helps...
