Hi

I am getting a dual G5 (just for PS use) with the 160Gb HD, which is enough for what I need, since I store everything on an external HD and DVDs. My question is about getting a second HD for scratch space. Since I only want a HD for scratch, and the only option through apple is to get a 250GB drive, I am looking for a less expensive option.

My question is, what is a good size partition for dedicating scratch for PS? Can I just partition 20GB or so on the original HD? Should I buy a separate 40GB HD?

Thanks for any info and recommendations,

Uisce

With some loud music + a friend to chat nearby you can get alot done. - but jezz, I'd avoid it if I had the choice---- If only real people came with Alpha Channels.......:)

A 20GB partition on the original HD would be more than enough space. If you are still concerned, further partitioning will give you the option to also select additional partitions as secondary scatch disks. Rule of thumb classically was 3x the file size plus the size of the PS app = size of a scratch disk. I currently have 7 partitions of my 80GB HD, allowing for separate OS's, active projects, fonts, archives and a 23GB scratch disk.
