I'm looking to convert my music collection to another format other than M4A. Right now most of my music is in M4A, for my iPod. But to have on my computer for better quality I was wondering what other formats are out there.
Any suggestions?

If you're so quality obsessed, just bring them in as .wav or .aiff files. Every other format is compressed (speaking of mp3,ogg,wma, etc)

Well, there are non-lossy compression formats out there, FLAC ( Free Lossless Audo Codec) comes to mind first... but OS X support is next to non-existant, and it doesn't compact the audio nearly as much as either AAC or MP3 do.
To be honest, I don't see the point of the lossless formats, a high-bitrate AAC file is good enough for my uses (and smaller). Still, it's there for you to look into, not to mention you can rip your CD's into uncompressed WAV or AIFF files.. but they'll be huge - uncompressed 44.1 khz/16-bit/stereo audio files are about 10 MB per minute, and would come to about 100 GB for the week plus a few hour's worth of music I have in my library now.

You know you can set the bitrate that high that 99.97% wouldn't hear a difference.
