Hi, I saw this announced at MacNN http://www.zankasoftware.com/wired/ and wondered if it might be the type of Mac-like, user-friendly software that I could jump into and start experimenting with a bulletin board for my web site. Unfortunately, the FAQ page starts off talking about heavy security issues, etc., and I really can't tell whether this could be an entry point to BBS setup for an amateur web designer (i.e., DreamweaverMX + a little hand coded html) level person.

Anybody got a perspective on this vs. alternatives? I know these forums use vBulletin, but I think that involves laying out bucks I don't have just to experiment with (although my web hosting company does offer php so I *could* be using vB).

Suggestions? Anybody hosting their own BB / forum?

I think this software is somewhat different to a web forum like this one.

If you just want a forum, try PHPBB, which is free and pretty easy to set up and use.

What the nerd community most often fail to realize is that all features aren't equal. A well implemented and well integrated feature in a convenient interface is worth way more than the same feature implemented crappy, or accessed through a annoying interface.
