I hang my head in shame. have done stupid thing and copied over a folder of documents from old powerbook to the new one which had the same name! Somehow I missed the 'are you sure you want to replace... ' warning.

It's not a big deal but there's just one file I'd liek to recover if possible - an Excel spreadsheet created by Office Vx.

Please could anyone let me know if this is possible, and if so what to use (Norton?). It's not really recovering a deleted file but rather a folder which has been replaced by one with same name.

Or is there some Unix-voodoo I can do in the terminal to find and rename the 'missing' file?

And yes I will back up more assiduously in future?

TIA for any help,

Adrian

You can try Data Rescue or Norton UnErase. But unfortunately, chances are that you've overwritten the file with the files you were copying over, so I wouldn't get my hopes up...

Ticking sound coming from a .pkg package? Don't let the .bom go off! Inspect it first with Pacifist. Macworld - five mice!
