I cannot send any email from my .Mac account.

It tries to connect to smtp.mac.com and it finally says after a while "The connection to the server “smtp.mac.com” on port 25 timed out."

I have not changed any setting. Can anyone help me?

You have answered my question perfectly. I am for a week at a friend home and since i arrived i could not send any email. He uses Cox@home.
