My text for titles looked REALLY bad in iMovie. I was playing around and clicked the "Enhanced Video Playback" which becomes clickable when you select "High Quality (Better Image)" under Playback Quality in iMovie preferences. When "Enhanced Video Playback" was selected, the fonts looked great.

Does anyone know what this setting actually does. I couldn't find anything in the help section for iMovie. Also, does anyone know if this improvement in quality will also be apparent when I burn to DVD through iDVD. Last time I burned a movie, I didn't know about the enhanced setting, and the titles looked crappy on the DVD.

The Apple DV quicktime codec has various on-screen playback qualities to support smooth playback on a wide range of CPU power.

The lowest quality is actually shoving in quarter resolution making the image very poor and soft.

The 'high quality' mode is the is the sharpest, shoving the image in full resolution, but a lot more taxing on the CPU.

All DV movies are set to default to the low quality when you open them in the quicktime player. and you can toggle the setting in the movie properties.

The setting you are referring to in iMovie simply toggles this quicktime property.

This setting affects the on-screen image only, so it will not affect renders, exports or output to tape.
