Step 1: Drop MSN
Step 2: Sign up for a real e-mail account (no, Yahoo does not count)

Naw, I use mine specifically for chatting with my friends, and as much as I'd like them to use another program, the chances are slim to none.

I use MSN Messenger with a disposable Hotmail account. No way I'm relying on it for my e-mail.

Is this because you are using MSN as your ISP? If you use a real ISP for email and web you should be able to use MSN Messenger for chat.

MSN? Mac? My god, why? I mean, I know an OS X client exists, but I didn't think it was actually meant to be used.
I mean, really. I'd be far more embarrassed to use MSN than to parade around naked in front of my iSight (actually, that can be fun).
I can just imagine calling MSN tech support...
Caller: "Hi. I'm having trouble connecting to my email with MSN."
Support: "Sure, I can help. Just go to 'Start' and select the butterfly MSN icon..."
Caller: "Hold on, wait. I'm using a Mac."
Support:
Caller: "Hello?"
Support:
Caller: "Helllloooo?"
Support: "Eerr... I can't help you, sorry." Click.

dont knock msn messenger. Its only in America where MSN Messenger is not widespread. Most other countries swear by MSN messenger.
Personally, I use both, simply b/c i have friends who use either AIM or MSN. Just like PCs and Mac, they both suck equally

Because a lot of PC users use it, especially here in the UK. Most of the people I know from school use MSN Messenger. If I want to talk to them, I have to use MSN Messenger too. They won't change to AIM so they can talk to me on iChat because the AIM client for PC sucks, they already use Hotmail for their e-mail (because they're n00bish) so it's convenient, and if they changed they'd either not be able to see all their friends using MSN Messenger or they'd have to run both of them at the same time. It's not worth the hassle.

It's kind of annoying when people ask "why do you use MSN it sucks use iChat" because it's not our fault most of our friends use the former. I'd love for all 60 or so people on my contact list to be on iChat then I wouldn't have to look at those stupid nicknames all the time.

Why do so many people hate the ability to modify your name? It's one of the things about MSN I have grown to love (the pics being the other).
Maybe y'all just need some funnier friends!

cheers! As much as everyone is gonna rag me for it, out of all the chat programs available, I actually do prefer MSN's the best. Add on the ad-removal hack, and its perfect to me. It still has its shortcomings, but its my favorite by far.
iChat beats AIM, but it is far from the best aim client.

In my case you're right, most of their nicknames are about their girlfriends/boyfriends, mine on the other hand...

Yeah the custom nickname is one of the good aspects of this client, I don't care that's it's microsoft or anything. I just wish for equal features for the mac client tough. ryju (L) = heart doesn't it ?

Every time I log in, I have different names in my buddy list. It makes it annoying to have to figure out who's who all the time. In iChat, however, people can put custom messages in their status text but still keep the same name from session to session. Having people jump around willy nilly is just lame.

I hate it because it's really hard to see at a glance who's online if people keep changing their screen names to random quotes.
I use Fire, which lets me override their chosen name, so all is good

What the nerd community most often fail to realize is that all features aren't equal. A well implemented and well integrated feature in a convenient interface is worth way more than the same feature implemented crappy, or accessed through a annoying interface.
