Got a couple of questions for the gurus out there.

I'm looking for a (relatively) simple Paintbrush-like program so I can do some basic editing to send a Valentine to a friend(I know it was a month ago, but I'm in Japan, and they've got this thing called White Day here, so just trust me on it ). It's really basic stuff -- just some copy and pasting and adding some text, really -- so I don't need anything too sophisticated.

At some point, though, I'd like to give The GIMP a go, but I'm a bit intimidated by all things Unix (aside from OS X, of course). I'm running Panther, so does the inclusion of X11 make installing/using the GIMP any easier?

Thanks in advance,
Mike

Using the GIMP isn't really going to be terribly complicated, just get something like Fink and then it's basically a case of typing "fink install gimp" at the command line.

Or there are a few package-based installers floating around, but you might have to pay for them.

However, the GIMP is quite powerful - it's intended to be on the same level as Photoshop. I know GraphicConverter has some basic functionality there (and it's free with all pro Macs last I checked), but there's probably something better suited to your needs around.
