Can I buy a whole album with my free songs or do I have to get each individual song from that album? Anyone done this yet? Also, it says you have to redeem them by 4/30/04, does this mean I have to buy the music by then or just enter the numbers in the ITMS?
Thanks in advance

From what I've read, you can't buy whole albums with the free music caps. You have to purchase them individually.
I'm not sure about the deadline thing.

From the iTunes Pepsi Promotion FAQ, you can spend up to 10 codes per day, but they all have to be on individual songs (though all ten can come from the same album).
"Free song credits cannot be used toward the purchase of audio books or albums."

I believe it means they have to be redeemed by 4-30-04. though I'm not sure. I would hate to lose the credits if that does happen.

Thanks for the FAQ link, here is a quote from it:
Q: Do I need to choose my song when I enter my code?
A: A credit for one free song will appear in your account for each eligible prize code you enter. Your song credits will be stored in your iTunes account through April 30, 2004.
I think this is total BS. You also can't win more then 200 total songs (not that I will get that many).

Not that I am greedy, but I barely drink any kind of pop, and I still have over 50 songs (yes I know how to cheat to win). What I think is really bad is if we do not use the songs by the 30th of April, you lose them. Also, one quick side note, you can download more then 10 songs a day, but you can only enter 10 songs per day.

It's a contest for free music, of course there will be a deadline and limitations, it's what keeps it fair for the rest of us.

I understand the deadline to enter the codes in, I do not get the dead to purchase the songs. You could have 15 songs on April 30th and on May 1st they would be gone unless you used them. That I think is unfair. If you win a stereo from a Frito Lay contest (not real) you can still use it after the dead line for the contest is done. Right?

Of course you can use the stereo after the deadline as long as you pick it up before the deadline.
You could get the Million dollar winning ticket in the McDonald's Monopoly game but you won't get a dime if you wait until after the deadline.
I dont' get what the big deal is. You will be able to listen to your songs as many times as you like as long as you download them before the deadline.

Yep, zeebe understands that. He's actually complaining about the fact that Apple appears to make you spend the credits you won even if you've already entered in the codes and claimed your winnings.
Take your same example about the million dollars won from McDonald's. Let's say you showed up and presented your winning ticket and were awarded the money well before the deadline. But now McDonald's demands that you actually go out and SPEND every last cent of your winnings before the end of the deadline, or it'll be forfeited. That's what zeebe actually has a problem with it seems.
Unfortunately Apple has to do something like this. I'm sure they want to eventually get rid of all of the special code they've got in their servers to handle the Pepsi promotion, and they have to eventually set a cut off date for redeeming the credits you've already been given.

You win songs, not money.

If you entered in a code and got a song, you'd be correct. But you can actually enter in a bunch of codes and get back credits that you can spend at a later date, without ever downloading any songs at all. The codes actually win you credits that you can spend at the music store, not songs. The original argument was that if you redeem the codes and get your credits before the deadline, you should be allowed to keep those credits after the deadline (assuming your account is still active).
I do understand why Apple does things they way they do right now, but I also see some validity in zeebe's original complaint.

True enough! Plus he already admitted that he gained his credit surplus through cheating. So what's the deal with wanting to keep the credits after the deadline, zeebe? Is there some kind of album coming out in late 2004 that you wanted to buy?

How many of you haven't used the tilt the bottle to be sure you win a song? It's not that I want something that comes out later, it's just that I already have most of what I want and I don't have a good selection to choose from. Although I am trying out new music with it.
Owlboy, I am not being greedy. Also, I am not getting 10+ caps a day, I might get 1-2, like I said, I don't drink a lot of pop. I will actually have all of the caps ENTERED (the ones I have now) by the deadline. I just think I should be able to spend my winnings my way in my time, not the way Apple or Pepsi think I should.
I am actually glad to see some people kinda starting to agree with me, I thought I was alone on this one.
