Aaarggh! There are 2 Win2K boxes and an XP Pro one at work. I was hoping to stream my iTunes library from my Powerbook to them, but it doesn't even appear on the PCs.

I've looked all over and can't seem to find the solution. It's not the Windows Firewall issue from this KB article (http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93396). Besides, the interface is different in Win2K from XP Pro--I couldn't even find the firewall option in Win2K.

I already have my iTunes sharing port opened on my end. Look for Shared Music is turned on with all the machines, and my Mac has Share My Music enabled. The XP Pro box didn't have the firewall enabled anyway. And when I turned it on just so I could open those ports, it still didn't work.

I'm wondering if it's how our office network is configured. We're all on the same subnet. But our server does DHCP, while our Sonicwall does NAT (I think). I shouldn't have to open up those ports on the Sonicwall, right? I prefer not messing with them. Any other ideas about what the issue might be?

Help much appreciated. I finally updated to iTunes 4.2 for this. I was hanging around with 4.0 so I could still do internet streaming but figured this was more important.

Thanks

This is just a guess; however, wouldn't something have to be configured with Rendezvous on the Window's side to make this all work?

Hmmm, my understanding of it is that as long as you're on the same subnet, everything should work. Taking into account all of the other things (opening those ports, etc.).

Perhaps this is more a networking thing that i should try posting in that forum if everybody's stumped here too.

I didn't have to muck with Rendezvous when I put iTunes on my Win2K box, it just worked. I about fell off my chair.

While I do not know how to fix your problem I can confirm that it DOES work. Used it myself between a iBook and a XP home system.

I'm having a similar problem. I'm in a dorm with a couple people running iTunes. A guy I just set up can't see me, and I can't see him, but another guy can see us both just fine.

I found this blog post and was wondering if anyone can confirm this, or if there is a workaround.

The details are as follows: I'm the only Mac user (OS X 10.3.5, iTunes 4.6) and everyone else is running various versions of Windows and the newest iTunes. The guy that can't see me (and I can't see him) is running Windows XP SP2. Another Windows user (XP or XP SP1) can see both of us. I checked, and the SP2 guy is not running a firewall, and neither am I. Everyone who can see someone can also connect and play the music just fine.

Any ideas?

Wouldn't that kind of defeat the point of ZeroConf (as in zero configuration) networking?

I have a similar problem (trying to stream from Win2K to Mac OS X), and I tried the solution proposed in the link from wataru's post above. It seems to work - first you install python, then you write the script, then you execute it after starting iTunes. After execution I got two entries for the iTunes library on the Win2K machine where before there was one. The new one is named "Home Jukebox" as indicated in the script. But I get the same error trying to open either library:
The shared music library "Home Jukebox" is not accessible for an unknow reason. (-3259)

Check that any firewall software running on either the shared computer or this computer has been set to allow communications on port 3689.
I did have a firewall installed, but first shut it down and then removed it entirely for testing. Windows 2000 doesn't come with a firewall, so that problem is pretty much ruled out.

I can stream from Mac to Mac on the same network, though I've noticed some odd problem with Windows filesharing that may be related.

SP2....that means the windows firewall is now on, check that and open the port iTunes uses.
