Has anyone had any luck running idvd 4 on anything less than a 733Mhz processor?
I would like to aquire the software but that would be the only thing that would have me upgrade from the DP 533 I am running. Can't really justify it for that one application for now.

If not, any other recommendations for gettng my QuickTime movies to dvd format, readable on commercial dvd players? Would Toast 6 do this for me?

Any recommendations would be appreciated.

TIA

Many DVD players will play MPEG-1 and 2 files if they are on a "normal" ISO-directory-structure CD. More players will play VCDs and SVCDs which can be easily created also by Toast.

It depends on what you want. If you only want to watch movies, then a (S)VCD should be sufficient for you, but if you want all fancy animated menu stuff and long playtime and highest quality you want a DVD. However a SVCD can hold about 45 minutes video in close-to-DVD quality.

You'll find many infos also about the formats, hardware players, and which applications to use on OS X here: http://www.dvdrhelp.com/.

Thanks for the reply.

I do want DVD quality. I will have access to a faster machine soon. That will help. I have tried VCD, will try SVCD. Although the 45 min time restraint might not work out.

The link appears to have a lot of good resources. I wlll spend some time and peruse it. This will be a big help.

Hopefully I will find that idvd *will* work on slower processors.

Thanks again.

You're welcome.

SVCD quality is much closer to DVD than to VCD.

Toast 6 can burn perfectly fine DVDs. It doesn't give you any customization of menus or chapter times though (the default menu is usable but you can't change it).

Also the free (and open-source) Sizzle can author DVDs with more customized features, and you can burn the resulting image with the tools that come with Mac OS X.

I use Toast 5 but I guess I need to upgrade to get the menu options for DVD.
I'll download Sizzle and check it out.

Thanks,
