Hey guys,

At my uni, we have a proxy to go through for internet access. We have wireless access around campus, and to use this, I needed to put some proxy settings into the network preferences.

When I use Safari to go to a webpage, it will first ask for my username and password, then it will work.

iChat and Mail never ask for a username and password, and thus they can never get onto the internet. Is there any way that I can use these programs using this connection (through the proxy)?

Go to Preferences, then to the Accounts tab. Click Server Options, and you can set it up there.

I haven't had to do this myself, by you might try setting up the "proxy" settings in your network system preferences. Also, poking around Mail's preferences there are various advanced settings that seem to allow you to authenticate using kerberos etc. - I'd look around at them and see if there isn't something that looks right to you...
