iMovie/iDVD speed issues

iMovie and iDVD are the slowest programs on my computer. Ever since I updated to iLife '04, it has been a burden just to mavigate through these programs without seeing the "ball of death" for a good half minute. Has anyone else had this problem? Could it be that I have stocked hard drives or that I'm accessing the movie from a different internal hard drive?
