That it is.
"iPhoto 4.0.1 includes many organizational and stability enhancements. Performance has also been increased throughout the application, giving you faster importing, smoother image viewing and easier Rendezvous photo sharing. This version of iPhoto also features improved thumbnail images in your photo library. To take advantage of this, your thumbnails must be upgraded, which may take a while, depending on the number of photos in your library."
Sounds like a nice upgrade... anyone try it out yet? Any problems?

Thanks Apple.

wataru....can't you just click finish later?
Said it would take 15 mins here...with 1600 photos, 2 minutes left to go.. And they fixed the spinning progress indicator next to Loading photos... it used to be all blurry.
Update: WOW! 4.01 is amazing.....its even faster than 4!

My OS is set to Japanese, and the button in Japanese only says "stop." I don't want to screw something up.

This update still doesn't fix a bug I've been seeing. If I have one image highlighted in an Album, and try to switch to another album I get the "beachball of death" and I have to force quit iPhoto. Very annoying.

Wow great update - thumbnails are now amazingly quick to render. Mind you I'm in the UK and the 'Order Prints' button still does nothing.

Well, mine has been hanging at the "estimating time remaining" phase for a while.
Anyone else have that?
I only have 884 pjotos.
Then if i press finish later, it quits.

Order prints only works with iPhoto 04.
I'm still on iPhoto 2 and can't order prints or books.

I took the opportunity to backup my photo library for once before the update. No problems updating but I've been meaning to do that anyway. I only have 264 photos so the thumbnail updating didn't take too long. They were plenty good looking and fast before, but I guess it's even better now. ^^
I just wish iPhoto had a full screen view mode (not slideshow).

It's upgrading my thumbnails now. Is there any noticeable difference?
But the update screwed up all the permissions inside the iPhoto.app package, so that the permissions for the Resources folder was "No Access".

They apply when I add them to a picture but a smart album ignores them.

Yah, that happened to me too. Does anyone know what the permissions should be, and how I change them in the terminal so they'll cascade all the way down?

My upgrade went well except that iPhoto now will not launch and has a generic icon.
I looked to Apple and found that I am not alone with this problem:
http://discussions.info.apple.com/we...Bj.1@.6890942e
I tried all that and still it won't launch.

Being fairly new to OS X (thus there may be a better way to do it), I dropped to the command-line, went to the Applications directory, and issued a chown -R <user> iPhoto.app. Now it's working fine.
I tried this but I don't understand how to type the "Applications directory" part. Could someone post a step-by-step in the Terminal please?
Thanks

Not sure if I need to do this on my machine yet, but if that's what you want to do, here's how you do it:
1) Open terminal
2) 'cd /Applications'
3) 'chown -R <user> iPhoto.app'
With <user> being your username. Have fun.

I'm in the UK and the 'Order Prints' button works fine for me as does the 'Order Books' button.
So far I have ordered 1 set of prints and 4 books, 1 book has shipped and so have the prints.
I checked again this morning and 'Order prints' is still working for me.
Maybe you have to be connected to the internet when you try, as the first thing it says when I use it is 'connecting'
Maybe you should reinstall from iLife and try again.

Strange, on mine (I am also in the UK) it comes up with a setup pannel,with some options and the cost of the book. If you click 'order' then it asks you for your Apple 'one click' ID, I canceled after that because I don't want a book. It's all very 'slick' and self contained.

I think a re-install must be needed as I'm on broadband so always connected. Having said that I can't see how the service can be any better than photobox.co.uk so maybe I won't bother.

I really wanted to use the Books feature which I have not found on other sites.
Photobox do have a great selection of gifts, but no books.
Prices vary as well, some are cheaper at Apple.
Apple Prices
6x4 = 27p
7x5 = 57p
8x6 = 135p
8x10 = 163p
8x12= 198p
Photobox Prices
6x4 = 29p
7x5 = 39p
8x6 = 169p
8x10 = N/A
8x12= 399p
Postage is about the same.

Upgrade went ok. Of course it took 1+ hours to do my updating of thumbnails (6500+ pictures, 4GB).
When it was done though, it had broken my three Smart Albums which were set to keywords. I had to delete them and reset them to the "is" keyword, and they worked fine.
Seems a bit faster, but my machine is getting a little long in the tooth to do what iPhoto is asking.

I just tried this also, thanks Ingtones, but I get a permission denied message.
Whats weird is that 4.0 works perfectly, not 4.01.
Anyone else around here can give me a Terminal tip? Thanks

Update!!! It works!!!
I did this instead
1) Open terminal
2) 'cd /Applications'
3) 'sudo chown -R <user> iPhoto.app'
All I did was change it to sudo first. It will ask for your System Password.
Problem solved. I luv Unix!

Didn't "Repair permissions" from disk utilty fix it? Just curious.

Hadn't noticed this in the previous iPhoto, but now I can drag pictures between film rolls. You can also create new film rolls by selecting a bunch of pictures. This is nice. I hated limiting film rolls to imports.

upgrading for me sucked. the performance of the whole app went completely downhill and it took for ever to scroll through pictures, or even click on the transfer button. I tried everything listed here, but I finally had to delete iPhoto and reinstall 4.0 for it to be functional. Anyone else have that problem?
My specs are the following:
1GHz iMac
1GB RAM
80GB HD
I also have a 120 GB Firewire HD connected.
I use iPhoto Buddy to split my pictures up by years (yeah I know 4.0 does that but I go back farther then 2000) and I e-mailed the author of iPhoto Buddy, he said it shouldn't be a problem.

Update went perfectly!
Quite a bit faster, especially when browsing through shared photos. No more spinning beachball.
Thumbnails are noticeably lower quality, which I'm sure is the reason for the speedup. Even larger thumbnails have quite a bit lower quality, but this really doesn't bother me, since it means I can find the photos I want a heap quicker.
Update took around an hour for about 7000 photos (TiBook 1ghz), well worth it though. For the first time, the app feels pretty rock solid.
Thanks Apple!

Did anyone lose the ability to make transitions in slideshows? I am tempted to go back to iPhoto 4.0 because that's such a big part of why i use iPhoto. Can anyone help me out?
Thanks a lot. I hope there's a simple answer here.

Same problem here. I guess we have to delete iPhoto 4 and reinstall a previous version.
Does anybody know what is the latest version of iPhoto that can run acceptably on a Powerbook G3 Lombard on top of Mac OS X Panther?
