I have been using iTunes for years. I used to be able to import (encode) CDs to MP3s at about 10-12x. Suddenly, iTunes will not import faster than 3x, and usually operates between 1 and 2x.

In the last few days since the problem began, I have only downloaded a couple of video codecs to my machine--nothing else has changed.

I tried uninstalling the codecs and reinstalling iTunes, but it didn't help.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Three things to check:
1) Are you ripping at the exact same settings ? Sometimes ripping at different bitrates can have dramatic effects on the speed?
2) Check your import settings checkboxes ? Did you turn on error correction? This will slow things down quite a bit.
3) Check Activity monitor to see how much CPU iTunes is using. Maybe something else is hogging up CPU cycles that you don't even know of.

Of course, if you've been using iTunes for years .. then you've probably already thought of all of the above.
