hi all:

i’ve tried a search on this but don’t really know what terms i should be using

i’ve got an extensive vinyl record collection that i want to digitize into my iMac G4 and assume i’ll need a hardware bridge and probably some software to do so

do i use the inbuilt audio controller? do i use toast ? (i think i remember reading that once)

should i try plugging the pre-amp turntable into the back of the iMac with RCA cables?

would appreciate some pointers in the general direction

thanks in advance

the geko

Get a RCA female cable with headphone jack input. Plug the headphone jack into the audio input/mic in your G4. Kick start your toast & record the audio track as aiff files. After saving the files, use toast to burn it as audio CD.

Simply plugging a turntable in to a Mac with the appropriate cable isn't going to work. Turntables nead a certain kind of preamp with the built in RIAA(?) equalisation curve. Without that, if you can hear the recordings at all, the recording will just sound crap.
Better to set the turntable up through a regular hifi amp (which will have the required phono input with the RIAA equalisation curve), and use one of the recording/tape outputs from the amp, and send that to your Mac/audio interface.
Could also use a DJ mixer in much the same way.
The worst thing about having a failing memory is..... no, it's gone.

I agree with Grrr; the easy way I can think of is to set up your audio equipment as if you're going to listen through your headphones, and substitute that cable for one into your Mac. Look on www.versiontracker.com for Audiocorder, a free recording program.

Or if you already have Toast, it comes with CD Spin Doctor, which is not a bad app for recording.
I do not like those green links and spam.

Don't you know what to do???!!

You get one of the issues in like the 1997 or 98 issue of MacAddict (Back when it was a good magazine, without PC heads running it), and they tell you how!

The cover is yellow, with a Mac plus cartoon on the front. Talks about automating your mac.
