As a .mac member i like to use the Backup app. But my problem is that when ever i use it it says that it "did not recognize my .mac user name password" and it has me check my .mac preferences.

everything is correct. user name and password. I can use my idisk for the finder.
I tried trashing the backup preferences and that did not work.

Anyone have ideas?

I have exactly the same problem - have been trying it for months with diff versions of Panther and diff versions of backup and it has never worked. I even have iDisk locally stored on the machine with auto-sync yet still backup says that I do not have a valid .mac account.

Any help greatly appreciated -

This is a known issue (go to the .Mac iDisk support forums). I have the same problem too. If I quit that message and then relaunch Backup straight away, it will work on the second launch (no need to view System Preferences).

I believe that the proper solution is to have your iDisk totally wiped clean by Apple, but I haven't done this yet myself.

Out of interest, did you folks start off on the original iTools or early .Mac account (i.e. the non-WebDAV version)?

Yeah - I was an early .mac adopter - never knew this was how I was going to be rewarded for my allegiance ;-)

Any knowledge of who best to contact at Apple to get my iDisk wiped?

Thanks

As far as I am aware, the only way to get it done is to post a thread at the .Mac iDisk support forums requesting it and then waiting for a forum admin to respond, but as I say, I haven't done it yet myself as I'm too a) lazy and b) OK enough with the workaround.

As it isn't a universal issue, my suspicion is that people who were using iDisk prior to the WebDAV switch are those who were most likely to suffer this problem... I don't know if that is true though.
