question, how do i import a quicktime movie into final cut pro and not have to render the movie to view as it is.

Depending on the codec, normally you must render first. Otherwise Final Cut would have to be decoding the movie on the run, as well as playing, editing etc. It renders first to speed things up.

Alternatively, you could open the movie in Quicktime Player and (assuming you have Quicktime Pro) export it to a DV stream first, then import into Final Cut. That should work.
