I'm interested to know how many people have used or intend to use the Apple iPhoto Prints / Books service.

I have used both services and I am very happy with the quality and speed of service.

I'm interested to know if this is a big money maker for Apple or really a niche product.

I've always wanted to order a Book; however, waiting on that special moment/vacation and awesome pictures before doing so...

I would have done already if Apple had made it compatible with iPhoto 2, but they didn't and most likely won't. Primarily I'm interested in the Book side of things at present (I don't have a digital camera, so my imported images are generally already on prints), but that's another big let down by Apple - can't use it, won't use it.

Did you install from the iLife '04 CD's?

It really is worth buying iLife '04 just for the new version of iPhoto.
The speed increase alone is worth the $49, plus the other apps have been given great updates. And on top of all that you get GarageBand as well.

I not really sure why people don't want to buy the update to iLife '04.

As to iPhoto Books / Prints not working for some users, I would recommend a reinstall from the iLife '04 DVD or CD.

I'm not shelling out yet more money to Apple for a bunch of apps that I can't use (look at the specs of my Mac) just to get a version of iPhoto that works the way it should have done from the start (speed and print/book service wise).

I'll wait until I can finally afford a new Mac at which point I will be pirating iPhoto '04 to everyone else I know that doesn't want or can't use the other iLife apps.

I can see that for some people it will not be a good buy as their Macs are not up to the job.
It's a good idea to wait until you get a new Mac.

As to iPhoto being right in the first place, I agree about the speed, it was very slow and should never have been released like that, but it was free then, so you get what you pay for I suppose.

Actually, the speed of iPhoto 2 I can and have lived with (so long as I collapse all inactive film rolls) - it was the absence of the Photo/Book service that was most annoying... and still is, especially as there can't be any other reason than trying to force people to pay for the upgrade to be able to use it as iPhoto 1 and 2 has worked fine in the US.

I think you need to use iPhoto 4 for Print and Books because they only built the US ordering features, etc in the older versions.

They needed to make quite a few changes that they would not have know the full details for at the time of releasing iPhoto 1 and 2.

They would need all the hooks built in for each differing country, prices, currencies, etc and all of this they could only do when they knew who the supplier was going to be.

I ordered a book of pictures from my honeymoon. It turned out better than I expected! Very professional look and feel and the ordering process was really easy. Took all of 15 minutes to get my pictures in order, place my order, and get confirmation.

I'm happy with the quality of the prints I've bought straight from iPhoto, but the price isn't that great. I have to do more work when I get prints from Ofoto, but I save a lot of money too.

I really want to, but the cost seems a bit high IMO.
