Hi,

I am ripping some of my own DVDs to my HD and I want to encode them into a DivX format so they don't take as much space on my HD. (I am doing this because I am going on a trip) I used to do this with out a problem, but I am experincing some problems now.

The procedure I use is the following:

1) Rip DVD with DVDBackup.

2) Open the Video_TS Folder in Mencoder

3) Set the frame rate a 1000 and the video size at 720

4) Hit encode....wait for like 2 hours or more for the proces to finish.

But know at the end of the encoding it stops like at 99% in some movies and other at 77% and says:

videocodec: libavcodec (720x480 fourcc=58564944 [XVID])
get_buffer() failed (0 -192233 0 0x2981f10)
Bus error

Any ideas? Are there any other ways to convert from DVD to DivX?

And while on the subject...anyone know if it is possible to burn a DivX onto a DVD to be able to view it on normal DVD plaver?

you never even told us what this way was. Since it says libavcodec you're clearly not using the actual divx.com codec. what are you using?

a (very) few set-top DVD players also (as another feature) read divx avi files. If you didn't buy your player specifically for this purpose, the answer is no.

I was asking if anyone knows another way to comver from DVD to DivX any other app appart from Mencoder

what are your system's specs? it sounds a little like MEncoder ran out of RAM or HD something.

Use Handbrake ( http://handbrake.m0k.org/ )

It's a great one step solution. (insert dvd. hit encode. walk away. hello divx file)
