He's probably talking about autoCAD. It's the largest, most popular CAD program, which unfortunately, hasn't been released on Macintosh. The makers were recently asking interested mac users to e-mail them so they could gauge the potential market, but I'm not sure if anything came of it.

There are other CAD apps that run for the Mac, though. They just aren't nearly as popular.

Also check out VectorWorks. There is a very active mailing list with many experienced users contributing, especially architects, at http://lists.nemetschek.net/archives/vectorworks-l.html

Remember that Autocad (for Windows) sells for about $3500 while Vectorcad (for Mac) is less than $1000.

I'm not for a second missing AutoCAD on the Mac. Clunky and awkward and at least one foot in DOS. Always last on the new stuff. It took until version 14 for them to discover FONTS!!!!

I recall the Architectural CAD Cup of 1998 ( I think). As always, the usual four programs came out in a clear lead, VectorWorks, Archicad, MicroStation and Allplan. Two of these program originates from the Mac world, VectorWorks and ArchiCAD. A close race with VectorWorks in the top. AutoCAD can in last, by a HUGE margin. Last in 18 out of 22 categories and second last in all but one of the others. Seventh in one category was the only highlight.

A good source when looking for CAD for Mac is Made4Mac on Apple's site. I think they currently list about 100-150 products
