I just rebuilt my PB15, partitioning it and I've now seperated the user area from the system. Since I'm using a symbolic link Apple's backup software will not work anymore.

Any recommendations of a good backup product, that will save to to any of the following destinations: a drive on a network,iDisk, DVD-R.

The other option is to write some shell scripts which may be fun, but I just don't have the time to search out the file locations, such as where iPhoto keeps its stuff and settings, etc.

Thanks
Mike

There are a couple of decent backup utilities out there. There is rsync, and psync (both based on unix backup tools; I use psync myself), and plenty more on versiontracker or macupdate websites. Just do a search and read the comments.

I've tried quite a few ... I really like this one ...

iMsafe
http://homepage.mac.com/sweetcocoa/imsafe/

iMsafe backs up data stored on any mounted OS X volume (such as your HD) to any mounted OS X volume. You can run backups from within iMsafe or schedule your backup to occur every day, on weekdays or on a specific day of the week. And you can create as many backup tasks as you like, so the possibilities are unlimited. The coolest feature in iMsafe is its incremental backup option: you can choose to only backup files that have changed since the last backup, dramatically reducing backup time. iMsafe will compare both versions and will transfer only the updated part.

I use Déjà Vu. As far as I can tell, it does the same things as iMsafe but it's a preference pane.
