I need to install a fresh version of Suitcase X1 onto a computer which had a different copy of Suitcase X1 running before. I trashed the items listed below from the computer before installing the new version, but the computer is somehow remembering the other version's serial number. When Suitcase is opened, the "About Suitcase" window shows the prior version's serial number. I don't even get prompted to input a new serial number or any other info.
What am I missing? I thought that the preferences file held the memory for serial numbers, so how's come it remembers even though these were among the items trashed? If it matters, this is being installed on a G5 Mac with Panther 10.3.3 installed and I did a regular empty trash rather than a secured empty trash when the prior version's items were deleted.
Items trashed:
Applications > Extensis Suitcase X1 folder
Applications > Adobe InDesign 2.0 > Plug-Ins > Extensis folder
Applications > Adobe InDesign CS > Plug-Ins > Extensis folder
Applications > Adobe Illustrator CS > Plug-Ins > Extensions > Suitcase Auto-ActivationX1
(Classic) System Folder > Extensions > Suitcase Bridge
(Classic) System Folder > Extensions > Suitcase Extension
System > Library > Suitcase Fonts folder (for managed system fonts)
(home) > Library > Suitcase Fonts folder (for managed system fonts)
System Folder > Suitcase Fonts folder (for managed system fonts)
(home) > Library > Preferences > Suitcase Preferences folder
(home) > Library > Preferences > com.extensis.Suitcase.plist
The dock icon for Suitcase was removed and in the startup items, Suitcase X1 was removed. I also did a search for "suitcase", "extensis", ".log" and nothing further came up.
Thanks for your input,
Merrily

As an update, I just tried again, this time, trashing the same things using Secure Empty Trash and I also repaired disk permissions prior to installing the software. Same result, however, Suitcase again installed more as an update using the prior version's serial number.
Does anyone have any ideas what I can do to get my new software to install properly with its own serial number?

I don't use Suitcase any more; however, when I used it (Suitcase 10), I seem to remember that it put some files in /Library/Application Support. Try that (they may be in an Extensis folder).

I finally received a reply from Extensis' online tech support and the issue was resolved:
"To remove the serial number, there is an additional file that needs to be removed. Go to the Utilities folder in your Applications folder and launch the Terminal. At the Terminal prompt, type the following (followed by return):
rm /Users/Shared/.SC110
After hitting enter, you'll get another line at the prompt and now you can "Quit" from the Terminal menu. The next time you launch Suitcase, it will ask you for your serial number."
Now I don't know if the .SC110 would apply to anyone else, or only in our case. If anyone else encounters a similar problem, you'd probably need to verify this solution with Extensis. That said, this fixed our install problem and we're now smooth sailing.
Too bad they don't list this additional file in the "read me" or install log as something that getss installed.
