Fetchart

Checks amazon for artwork based on ID3 tags. Searches whatever list you have active, so I'd recommend making a small playlist to test it on..your whole library would probably take overnight, and amazon might get upset at being bombarded by activity from a single IP. That said, glad someone finally came up with a tool to to this.

Art is stored in the file itself. So every file in the album will increase in size by the file size of the image. Sucks for iPod users.

ah that does indeed suck - over 2000 songs, 0.1Mb = 200Mb. Bum.

Oh well nice idea for a bit!

fetch art sure does download cover art.
alas even with the proper artist/song/album, only about 50% success for the right art.
Better than 0% tho, and it encourages me to get the other half instead of leaving it blank.

FYI, The average MP3 is around 3MB. or 3000KB. The average CD image size is 10KB - 50KB

So it only adds about 1% to 2% to the actual size of the MP3.

It does not suck for iPod people unless it's completely maxed out.

For the sake of argument, say you could fit 10,000 MP3s on your iPod (which most can't) and every album cover was 50KB (which a VERY large majority aren't even in that ballpark) You would be adding around 500MB to a 40GB drive. You would be adding 12% to your file size (and that's the absolute worst case scenario I could come up with)

I guess it wouldn't be so bad if the iPod could display these album covers...

Give it time. I think we will see this added to the iPod Linux port some time in the future. It can already display images, just another step to make it display images from the ID3 tag.

either ogg vorbis or just the players allow for artwork to be in the same album folder, which is something I'd like to see in iTunes (submitted feedback, no worries). I currently use my own applescripts to grab artwork and ID3 tags from freedb, allmusic.com, walmart, and CDDB, but they're all very manual.

I've been looking for an automatic solution (7000 songs is a lot of work), but incorrect artwork is unacceptable. the people seeing mistakes, do you have the (correct) album tag in the problem MP3s?

What I really need is a program that will search freedb results for track year and duration info for MP3s with the album tag set.....more metadata for iTunes playlists, and more sorting out incomplete songs.

This insanity brought to you by:
The French CBC, driving antenna users mad since 1937.

sorry to reply to my last post, but that Sofa app is really great. it's pretty buggy, settings like to revert, artwork is sometimes not put into iTunes....otherwise, some cool effects and it's useful. I'm sorry it's not OSS, I'd look into fixing these problems.

i was just wanting this today. i made a dynamic playlist with every song i have that does not have a year attached to it and i was surprised just how big it was. i would also like it if greatest hits collections could retrieve the correct year for each song.

I think it only adds the artwork into itunes if you leave the track playing for more than a certain amount of seconds (5 or so).
