Admittedly it's just a packaged X11 version, but it's so much easier to start than having to install from terminal etc.

Get it here.

Remember to enter a login name and password (arbitary, don't need to sign up).

Why is it soooo hard to bring soul seek as a stable client to OS X? Its THE BEST p2p client out there period, yet mac users are denied its usability if they aren't willing to invest in nerdism 101. ARRRRRRRRGH!

I have not bothered trying to port it because I don't see any real value over Gnutella/BitTorrent. I have no interest in chat, and BT is the fastest way to get something around. I usually use Gnutella to find a torrent and BT to retrieve it.

So, tell those of us who have not used Soulseek, what makes it better than Kazaa/Gnutella/BT/etc.?

The people who use SoulSeek are Audiophiles, Well Organized, All Albums, Unique People with VERY Unique Interest. The Music is Fresh, Rare & In Album Format. I have found Japanese Temple Bell Recordings from All around Japan, Chinese National Team Olympic Soundtracks, Italian Dance Hall &
Made Contacts with African Percussionist into Bhangara! Not to mention Native American Musicians who are experimenting with Funk!
I think thats what makes it number one unto its own.

You need to fill in a user name and password (doesn't matter what, it will tell you if they are being used already) before you can connect.

This package is super easy - double click and it will open under X11.

No, it's not that. I have a username and password entered. Those file options still aren't selectable.
