This is what I need: A high quality App that I can create high quality Rap Beats with. I have both GarageBand and Soundtrack, but I wanna make beats from the ground up (using no loops). I like GarageBands midi editor, but it sounds too cheesy for me.

Does anyone know of any App that would be along the same lines as GarageBand's midi Editor, but higher quality drum kits?

Here's an example of what I made using GarageBand (midi)

Neato... I just saw the price... so I don't think I'll be making high quality music today.

DAMNIT! Why can't SOUNDTRACK do MIDI? I PAID $200 for the stupid thing... thinking it could do everything GarageBand could do... Now I'm stuck using GarageBand and exporting loops and importing them into Soundtrack... STUPID APPLE!

Apple's stupid because you didn't research your purchase? I don't think so.

i think you can buy reason for less (without recycle, which cuts up samples).
download the demo, try it out (and price it at a music store, like zzounds.com or samash.com

have fun!

You should also check out Ableton Live- www.ableton.com Live is what ACID should have been by now.

The difference between Reason and Live is that Reason is basically a virtual rack. You use midi and built in effects and processing. Live is for pumping in your own beats and mixing and looping stuff on the fly. Both apps seem similar but are vastly different.

Also don't worry about Soundtrack. It's going to be a decent app for some things. Midi isn't one now but you have a gang of Apple Loops to work with and that might just be worth the price of admission there.

I been doing some stuff using reason and GarageBand. I also have live. Reason is really the best app out there to do synthing with. All you need is Reason and a little midi keyboard like the Oxygen8 and you're set. Live I don't think of as terribly useful unless you just want to sit there and play with it. It's more of an instrument than a sequencer.

I'm posting a short movie right now and my composer is working with Reason and Soundtrack along with an MPC to do the entire score. You can read up about it at the equipment page on our website (linked to in my sig).

i've mixed cds in reason, done remixes, and scored a playboy channel movie in it (with a great shareware app called revision: syncs qt video to reason).

it IS a great app, and there is a world of sounds & loops & stuff available for it!

powerbook/reason/oxygen8 (and lots of batteries...)
