I downloaded a tutorial in Quicktime format. When watching the tutorial the guy's voice is very low which is sort of annoying. Other than putting the volume high, is there a way that I can boost the guy's voice in the file itself?

in QuickTime Pro you can set the volume of sound tracks from 0 to 200% (Movie->Movie Properties). It's not much but it's better than nothing
